The Venefit™ procedure, which used to be called the VNUS Closure Procedure, is an effective and non-surgical varicose vein treatment. The procedure can improve the appearance of the skin, and it can also prevent health problems that can arise from large varicose veins. The Venefit™ procedure uses the energy from radio frequency to heat the vein, which causes the vein to collapse and close.
What are the Advantages of Venefit™?
There are many advantages to having the procedure. Some of these include:
- It is an outpatient procedure
- Minimal or no scarring
- Lasting relief
- Minimal downtime
- It is minimally-invasive
There have been numerous studies that show that more than 90 percent of veins that were treated from Venefit™ are reflux-free at 12 and 24 months following the procedure.
What to Expect
It all starts with a consultation at our office, during which we’ll determine which varicose vein treatment is best for you. During the actual procedure, we will use ultrasound technology to position a catheter into the varicose vein. The catheter uses radio frequency to heat the walls of the vein. When the vein is sealed, the blood will begin to flow to healthy veins, which will effectively reduce the appearance of varicose veins.
This is an outpatient procedure that is performed in the comfort of our office. You will be given local anesthesia to ease any discomfort, and the procedure is sometimes administered in conjunction with other treatments for optimal results.
What is the Difference Between Venefit™ and Vein Stripping?
The Venefit™ procedure is preferable to most individuals because vein stripping is invasive and removes the vein through a surgical procedure. Vein stripping is administered in a hospital with general anesthesia, and it requires an overnight stay at a hospital, which isn’t the case with our varicose vein treatments. In addition, vein stripping means that you will need to have stitches to close the incisions, which isn’t required with the Venefit™ procedure.
